We woke up to a blanket of white this morning…

And while this is totally to be expected in our neck of the woods, it is not something we have dealt with yet this season.

We have had plenty of various “Snow Storm Watches” and so on up until this point but had only been effected by sub-zero temperatures and 3-5″ of snow at most. Neighboring towns have been hit hard but we’ve mostly steered clear.
It’s hard to believe that today was our first real good accumulation of the season and we’re already more than halfway done with January! Currently reporting between 16″-20″ of total snow fall with a few more inches on the way later on. (and some seriously heavy winds kicking up!)
It is a winter wonderland out there! I love that I get to enjoy the beauty of it without having to drive to work in it. 😉

Leveling a tumbler…

There are so many miniscule steps taken from start to finish and one extremely important one is ensuring the tumbler is level from end to end on the rotary attachment. This end gets clamped in while still allowing the cup to spin a full 360°. This end is otherwise stationary as far as adjusting the height of the cup. That is done by raising or lowering the actual bed of the laser.

Leveling Continued…

While the “front” end is stationary, this end of the rotary attachment can be moved up and down to complete the leveling process rather than moving the bed of the laser up and down. It is a quick, easy step done with a manual measuring tool that hangs from the lens. I use this to ensure I am at an accurate distance from the laser.

If it is not the proper distance, it will be out of focus  therefore causing poor results.

This particular tumbler is stainless steel and has a coating on the outside. In order to melt through that coating, the proper speed and power are crucial! Here I used 100% power and 40% speed. Due to engraving both at the top and the bottom of the design, there is quite a bit of jogging back and forth while the laser fires and shuts off with precision.

The original tumblers I had listed on my site appeared to be the perfect choice at first assessment. I was, however quite disappointed after working with them for just a short time. I knew I needed to “pull them off the shelf” and look for something I would be proud to offer. And so began the search.

Thankfully, I was able to work with numerous brands and styles during the holiday season that various clients brought my way. That gave me a good idea of what I liked, and what I didn’t. One particular customer brought a total of 8 of these and I fell in love! I hope you do, too.
